"We get a lot of Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops helping," said Theresa Cicero, who works in the Parks Department. "Anyone can volunteer -- senior citizens, adults, kids. It's great."
Buses will shuttle the dozens of expected volunteers to various locations, such as the NJ Transit parking lot and curbs along Ridge Road, beginning around 9 a.m.
"We go to places that get a lot of traffic and gather a lot of garbage," Cicero said. All volunteers get lunch and a goodie bag of sorts filled with an assortment of gifts after returning around noon.In years past, these have included a rain jacket, umbrella and a backpack with a Thermos.
The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 4.
